Beer is, for many cultures, the beverage of the gods. The drink that was once called “liquid bread” has turned into a social liturgy. A tradition where people get together over a sort of magic potion that lets you forget about your problems for a while (always drinking responsibly of course). If you are a beer enthusiast and you find yourself in Madrid these days, then you are in luck. We give you some choices for you to enjoy a nice beer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) in our city.
A beer-related international event
The Vistalegre Palace holds from the 3rd to the 6th of March the second edition of the Beer Festival of Madrid, a paradise in the capital of Spain for hop and beer lovers.
If you decide to go to this event, you will be able to enjoy some of the best beers in the globe, in a tour around Belgium, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Mexico while you feast on some of the typical dishes of these countries will let you taste.
You don’t have to pre-book in order to go as the Beer Festival of Madrid has a free-admission policy, and if you’re planning on going with children, the Festival has a children play-zone for up to 12 years old. In addition to this, over 1,000 parking spots are available near the Palace.
This beer-focussed event will be accompanied by classic pop and rock bands, DJ’s and typical German Festival’s bands.
Best places to enjoy a beer in Madrid
One of the most traditional things to do for Spanish people (and maybe all around the world) is to finish off your day having a beer with your friends and fix the world until the next day.
Having some cañas is a true liturgy and there are some places you just can’t miss. In the centre, in the 29th of Valverde street (InBarrio de Malasaña) you will discoverthe “Fábrica Maravillas” (first opened in 2009) an authentic brewpub in Madrid where you will have the chance to taste their artisanal beer.
The guide Time Out recommends the “Cervecería Santa Ana” (Plaza de Santa Ana, 10), “La Ardosa” (Calle Colón, 12), or the “Taberna de la Dolores” (Plaza de Jesús, 4).
To this great list, we can add what a number of people consider the oldest beer pub in Madrid, the “Cervecería Santa Bárbara” located in the Plaza de Santa Bárbara, 8, which opened in 1815…
